Snug Plug started in a small two-bedroom house that Co-Founder, Joel was renting in California. He was getting very frustrated with all of the loose outlets in the house, causing plugs to fall out, appliances to not work and electronics to not charge, many of which he needed on a daily basis. The plugs were so loose they would simply fall out or not even make a solid electrical connection. Despite the fact that he was a seasoned handy man, he was renting and didn’t have permission to change out the electrical receptacles, so he decided to come up with a solution, SNUG PLUG!

Joel has a background in construction and engineering so when faced with this problem he developed a prototype of the Snug Plug which worked from day one! He knew he had something special but he knew bringing it to market was a daunting challenge. Through a touch of fate, he made friends with a co-worker and would often have lunch to discuss many things such as off-roading adventures and someday owning their own business. Through their lunchtime discussions, it was apparent that Co-Founder Salim had a good deal of experience in entrepreneurship and eventually he proposed the idea to bring Snug Plug to the market together as partners. Discovering that they both had a solid work ethic (and the same birthdays) it was a natural fit for them to partner and bring Snug Plug to the market.

One question remained, “did other people have the same frustration with loose outlets”. Salim and Joel started asking friends, family and even people they would meet in stores. It was a lock, so many people were just as frustrated with the issue of loose outlets but did not have the ability to change them for one reason or another. The foundation was set, and Snug Plug was a go! The partners spent the next two years, researching, testing
materials, engineering the design, developing the manufacturing plan, registering the branding and more. Making sure they had the easiest to use, safest and most cost-effective solution was critical and took a large investment. The results were clear and the first few years proved they had done what they set out to do–develop the first-ever patented solution for loose outlets.

The first few years were approached slowly, but sales grew quickly, despite limited marketing spend. Over the last few years, the brand has grown so much and nearly a million consumers have shown they had the same issue as Joel and Salim. Snug Plug is a true representation of the American dream. A chance friendship and a simple solution to a frustrating problem have continued to build this dream into a reality.
